ANNOUNCEMENTS: Direct Actions, Eclipse Day Rally, film screening, future events
The work continues for liberation!
Weekly Starbucks Sit-Ins
Join us every Monday, any time between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM, to demand an end to your tuition being sent to further a genocide. Next week will be our fifth week of sit-ins since the start of the semester. Drop in at any time for any length.
We at PSC demand that IU end its financial and academic partnership with Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center, a contractor profiting off of the genocide of Palestinian civilians. These actions are vital given IU’s refusal to show empathy for Palestinian communities, lack of material support for Brown students who need it, and increased complicity and participation in the genocide as carried out by Israel in Gaza today. The number of martyred Palestinians by Israel is now at least 40,000, and IU has only increased its ties with the occupational state of Israel.
Looking to get involved? This is a great first step! We will be sharing information on future events during our sit-ins.
IU Students disrespected at College Republicans event
On April 1, two students were detained for “disorderly conduct” and another two students were forcibly removed from the College Republicans-held event that involved Congressman Jim Banks and Libs of TikTok founder Chaya Raichik.
In the past year, Congressman Jim Banks threatened to pull funding from Indiana University because of the Palestine Solidarity Committee’s presence on campus, an attempt to suppress pro-Palestinian speech and activism.
Raichik’s presence on campus could have credibly been considered a danger. The Libs of TikTok account is full of hateful anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-Palestinian rhetoric. According, the content on her platform is correlated with threats of violence against various marginalized communities.
PSC at IU condemns the actions of the individuals who forcibly removed student protestors exercising their First Amendment rights.
We also condemn the presence of Raichik and Banks on the Indiana University campus as these two bigots should not be kept as far as possible from an institution that claims to support marginalized students.
Eclipse Day Rally for Palestine
Mark your calendars because on April 8, almost 20 organizations from the surrounding area will be coming to Bloomington, Indiana.
The platform of this rally is simple: End the Genocide. Save Higher Ed. BOOKS NOT BOMBS. Academic Liberation Now.
For information about this upcoming rally, be sure you are following IU Alumni for Palestine on Instagram!
Organizers are asking interested participants to sign up here!
“What the World's Silence Says: A Reading with Gazan Yahya Ashour”
On April 12 at 6:00 PM, we will be hosting Gazan poet Yahya Ashour who will read his work to those in attendance. Location TBA
Ashour is an award-winning touring poet with one published poetry collection and one children’s novel written in Arabic. He is also a 2022 fellow in writing at the University of Iowa.
Film Screening and Q&A:
On April 11 at 7:00 PM, JVP Indiana, the IU Department of Folklore & Ethnomusicology and the Indiana Graduate Worker Coalition will be hosting a panel discussion and Q&A with Aviva Orenstein and Hiba Alalami followed by a screening of the film Israelism.
The film depicts two young American Jews, Simone Zimmerman and Eitan, raised to defend Israel as part of their identity. Eitan joins the military while Simone advocates for Israel on college campuses. Witnessing Palestinian mistreatment firsthand prompts them to question their beliefs. Guided by Palestinians like Baha Hilo, they confront the impact of uncritical support for Israel on Palestinian lives.

Samia Halaby exhibition
It has been over two months since news about the esteemed alumna of Indiana University and Palestinian-American abstract painter, Samia Halaby, had her much-anticipated US premier retrospective canceled by Indiana University and the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art.
We continue to ask President Pamela Whitten to uphold the mission and values of Indiana University by restoring Samia Halaby's art exhibit in light of this cancellation.
We encourage everyone to support our cause by signing the petition and sharing it widely.
Unsuspend Professor Sinno
We also continue to seek your support in amplifying the student/alumni and faculty petition for Professor Abdulkader Sinno. Indiana University has suspended the tenured professor for assisting our organization in advocating for Palestine.
The university demonstrated a strong determination to penalize Professor Sinno, sidestepping established procedures that would have guaranteed him a hearing in front of peers before imposing such a severe sanction.
Free Sinno!
