Hope to see everyone at the callout today!
EVENT: Callout Meeting This Thursday
The Palestine Solidarity Committee invites you to join us for our Spring semester callout meeting, which will have an engaging information session on the history of Palestine and its relevance to current events.
During this session, we will also address recent concerning events that have affected members of our IU community.
Tonight 7:30 p.m. in SPEA Room 272.
Samia Halaby Speaks Out: Interview With Democracy Now!
The artist whose work was prohibited from appearing at Indiana University appeared on Democracy Now! this morning to talk about her experiences.
Near the end of last year, Halaby was told by the museum’s director that there were concerns about her social media posts in support of Palestine. Official correspondence from the museum's leadership merely delivered a concise two-sentence note that the cancellation was attributed to “safety concerns.” This was despite the absence of any evidence indicating any threats to the artwork or the campus.
Community members have circulated a petition in opposition to IU’s actions.
Watch her interview below:
Movie Screening w/ Director Q&A: Spaces Of Exception
Join community members at new bookstore, Redbud for a pre-opening event screening the film, Spaces of Exception, along with a Q&A from director Matt Peterson. Explore
EVENT: Documentary Screening and Discussion - The Lobby US
Our own Lee Hamilton has said of the Israel lobby: “There’s no lobby group that matches it . . . they’re in a class by themselves."
Why does the United States support Israel? Why do some states require employees to take loyalty oaths? Whats with the pro-Israel groups on campus?
Join PSC as we screen the Al Jazeera documentary censored by the outlet. The doc focuses on the influence of the Israel Lobby in the US. We will be screening part 1, which focuses on the lobby’s influence on US college campuses.
Date Change: “A Window on Palestinian Life."
Since we sent out the last update, the date for this event has changed to be February 4 from 2-5pm. "A Window on Palestinian Life" will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church featuring Dan Segal from Jewish Voice for Peace, PSC members and numerous others speaking about Palestinian experiences, art, music and struggle for survival.
This event will be co-hosted by local groups, Citizens for a Just Peace in Palestine and Israel, and Bloomington Peace Action Committee.
Petition for Professor Abdulkader Sinno
We also seek your support in amplifying the student/alumni and faculty petition for Professor Abdulkader Sinno. Indiana University has suspended the tenured professor for assisting our organization in advocating for Palestine.
The university demonstrated a strong determination to penalize Professor Sinno, sidestepping established procedures that would have guaranteed him a hearing in front of peers before imposing such a severe sanction.
For additional information on Professor Abdulkader Sinno's situation, please refer to the articles from the IDS, and The Nation.
